'04 Navigation CD Changer XM

11-05-2003, 10:34 AM
Not being able to play a music CD while navigating is a big problem for me. I checked with the dealer and the factory and no CD changer is avail from the factory- they say. Some of you say there is a factory changer/XM available- please advise. It would be ideal to install the changer where the Onstar is located. I checked after market and found that Soundgate just came out with an interface which enables a Pioneer changer and/or XM to be used and controlled with the factory Nav.- Has anyone heard of or tried this? I really do not want to go the FM modulating route.

According to the GM Media website, XM will be available in the '05 head units.

Why no XM? You can get a factory installed XM system in a Chevy pickup, but not an H2?

I don't understand their thinking on this...? :banghead

Food for thought ... does anyone have experience with that portable XM unit ... the one that goes from car, to house, to office?

Go to www.soundgate.com . I have contacted them and you can get the converter and add a pioneer cd changer and xm module with the converter and it will work with the factory controls. They are on backorder for about a week or so. Just a little research I have done.

Here is the EXACT URL ... http://www.soundgate.com/products/cd/hummer.htm
(available for Kenwood or Pioneer)

Though it didn't mention one way or another, I would just want to confirm that it is NOT an FM Modulator.

steve long,

The info posted says it will work on the 2003 H2, but it did not specify if it will work with the 2004 H2 navigation system.

I wonder if it will.

This is definitely what I want to add. CD changer and XM to the existing navigation set-up!!!!

By the way, what is the website to GM Media?

The soundgate interface hopefully will work. I have it on order and should be able to try it in a few weeks. There is a 2nd revision which will work on the '04 Nav models they tell me. They did say that if you install the 12 disc changer the Nav will only recognize the first 6- I'm going with the 6.

I just wanted to let all of you know that we are becoming a soundgate dealer, so it will be very easy to get the adapters through us if you choose to.
