:confused: the H2 has mocked me since it came out. i got the cash to buy one, but cant do it. i just dont know if i will be happy with it after the buzz wears off. we have 2 BMWs now and planned to buy an 04 540 wagon to replace my car. i know that the bimmer is good for well over 100k, but what about the H2 will it get loose and rattle. i wont be off roading it so it seems overkill to get such an off road monster. they need the H2 road. something with a 2wd option and no skid plates. its like dating a stripper...fun for now but will give you a headach in the long run. i dont know if i can trust it enough to spend the money on it. im trying to justify it.
Brian: If you are even slightly interested in an H2, you MUST take a test ride. I am car guy from way back, and have had everything from Lambos to Vipers to ML500s, Denalis, etc. I must say that the H2 is one of the greatest vehicles I have ever owned. I usually make a trip to South Carolina once a month and the H2 handles the trip as well as any Yukon or Suburban, except the fun factor is fantastic. I want to drive it everywhere I go. My only off-roading is pulling off on the berm of the highway. I get more "thumbs up" from people than any other vehicle I have owned.. I say "go for it"...
I have had mine since Nov. (5800 miles). Not a squeak or rattle. If you get one, you will have a smile for the duration of ownership! Hurry, go get a test ride!!!! Hopes this helps..

I agree, you really need to take a ride in one. I think you will quickly find that the road manner of the H2 is actually wonderful. It has a nice ride and is the quietest (interior noise) vehicle I have ever owned. Handling is not that bad. Sure, the one area that you will always find on the negative is the gas mileage, but if this is not an issue you really need to take a test drive. I think you will be please with what you find.
It sure does attract attention. I have rarely stopped for gas and not had some comment for full on coversation started.
For daily use you will need to make provisions for removing the spare from the rear ASAP, whether tire carrier or the like. This is one area where there is a short coming but luckily there solutions available. Consider this cost when buying but don't let a dealer nail you for $1000+, they can be had much cheaper.
Best of luck with your decision. My guess once you have the thought of an H2, it's not going to go away...
I got the bug about 5 months ago. Did a lot of research, and it all supported my first inclination (what's the saying about first impressions?).
Tire Carrier, a must. That big spare takes up valuable cargo room.
Ride? One of the most comfortable rides I've ever had (and that includes a 1987 Rolls Royce Silver Spur...different animal, but I choose the H2 over the Rolls).
Big Yellow pointed out something that I've not seen discussed too often, and that is the noise. This is one quiet vehicle inside.
People's reaction? Overwhelmingly positive. Although I did come out of a store once to find a flyer on my H2 (and all other suv's in the parking lot), claiming that I was responsible for the war in Iraq. Now, unless I've been brainwashed by the CIA, and don't sleep at night, but rather go off on secret missions, I don't think that's true!.
OVerall comfort? Let's simply say that tonight, 3 couples are going to a fine restaurant here in Chicago. I'm driving
: i have two test rides under my belt so far and loved every minute. the best was one person locked up thier brakes while doing the jersey stop(rolling through the stop sign)so as not to get in the way. my wife loved it also she liked that she was up so high. i will always want one, and the longer i wait the better they will get. i might wait for the 04 model. back to the spair tire carrier. it looks very easy to install it, is my observation true.
The tire carrier is very easy to install. I bought the SMA one and it took about an hour to do. Really just requires removal of the bolts on the rear tie hooks and mounts there. I screwed up my wiring for the license plate bracket but this was more because I am an idiot. All in all, a very easy install.

I don't think anyone who's buying cars at this price range should be worried about gas mileage, at least not all that much.
I am more into sports cars, but my dad is perhaps one of the very first few people who drives full size SUV in Taiwan. (way til back in 93) He had to put up with lots of issues such as parking and stuff. But I think there are Pros about SUV that even a sports car guy like myself have to admit. You see higher, and you see futher, if something's up way ahead at the front you get to see it.
Now we are in North America, gas price is cheap, parking the H2 is easier than parking a F250 pickup. You got nothing to worry about.
I would rather get the H2 over the 540i wagon (if it's M5 that would be a different story)
I think I have seen the H2 before most people did, because I live in London Ontario, which is the place that they test the new GM wheel-driven tank. They got a few H2 rolling around here for a long time. Honestly it's NICE!!!
Go test drive one, and I think you will be impressed. I personally don't like any SUVs, this is the first one that I actually liked except the Volvo XC90 which is nice in it's own way.
Tire carrier is a MUST!!! trust me, my dad got tire carrirer and some dud rear-ended him. The other car's front was all messed up and the only thing he had to replace was rear corner light cover... (THAT WAS AMAZING!!!)
i have a 96 328is w/short shift,exhaust,cool air kit and some suspension stuff that i did not do. my wife has a 01 325i 4dr stock. i test drove the 03 M5 wagon, but did not like it. it was too stiff. also it was 57,000. i like the 540it with the sport package and lux seats. i drove it and felt like i was in supercarville. the 04 540 is my other choice(see pic) i saw 3 H2s tonight and man my heart races when i see them, but it pounds at 100+ in my bmw. its very hard to go from a sports car to truck. one of the reasons i am looking at wagons and the H2 is we are expecting our first child. we need room for all the stuff. plus we want a 4wd vehicle also.
I doubt that Hummer would deviate from its Hummer reputation and put out anything less than a fully capable offroad vehicle so I'd guess that a two wheeled drive version would be rare. My opinion is that its a great vehicle - the best SUV that I've ever owned and fits my person needs perfectly. I agree though that it is overkill for just riding around the pavement but people seem to be buying them just for normal transportation. Personally, if all I wanted was a pavement burner, I'd opt for the Yukon Denali.

I think the guy with the flyer may have been confused ... a CAMO H1 on the news ... and a retail H2 on the local parking lot. Heck, even *I* can tell the difference. Go figure!?
