Towing - let's see what it will do.

I've been wondering how the H2 would be as a tow vehicle so I put one to the test today. I know their only rated to pull 6500lbs but I hooked it up to a 24" enclosed car hauler loaded with a C5, generator, tools and a few tires. Everything weighed in between 9000-9500lbs. The first thing that I noticed was the suspension had no complaints. The self-leveling system took care of that and made it look like there wasn't anything back there. Handling was also very good. Aside from the lack of visability the combo was easy to manuver. The only area that I found to be a problem was power. The truck was really working to do 65-70MPH. Another 100-150hp from a supercharger would allow it to tow this much easier. The stock 6.0 shouldn't have any problems pulling up to it's rated capacity. I just wanted to get a feel for what it would do when pulling a heavy load.

I have also pulled a load that was over the max rating. Althought not much over the max rating. I pull my 26' Formula boat and trailer, that together weight 7,000 Lbs. My H2 pulled the load very easily. I also only have to tow my boat about one mile to the river. The H2 makes a great handeling and great looking tow vehicle

I towed a similiar trailer with my Z06 in it. I found the H2 to lack a bit in power. I towed it from San Jose CA to Willow Springs Raceway near LA.

I found myself wishing it would downshift a few times on the hills and it wouldn't. The shifting points could have been better. I lugged a bit just from this, I think.

I also couldn't see too well - I stopped and bought some cheap mirror extenders. They vibrated more than a marital aid but they helped. The problem I had was with swaying - but I didn't have a load leveling hitch. A longer wheel base would be better for towing (but worse for offroading!)

I have a external spare tire rack - this didn't work at all when towing. I recommend putting the spare back inside when towing. I ended up putting the spare on the floor in the trailer.

With a super charger, computer modified to shift better, and better mirrors, it would be perfect.

All complaints aside, there's no other truck I'd rather have! I just wish it had a built in Nav system, but I digress! :p

Smile No problem towing so far!!!

Since February, I have logged nearly three thousand miles with my H2 towing a Hi-Lo trailer. I have leveling bars, sway bar et al, and though over hitch weight - too much stuff - I haven't had trouble except for backing the trailer up using mirrors which are somewhat magnified. Convex mirror additions have greatly helped, especially in normal driving. The H2-In-Tow had no trouble on mountain roads nor keeping up with freeway speeds - of course a radar detector helps too.
Sooooooo much fun, don't you think!!!
