H2 In Right Hand Drive

Hello All From New Zealand

My name is Aaron Wilkinson, great work Troy in setting this site up for H2 enthusiasts. Well back to the thread header, here in New Zealand the steering wheels are on the right hand side so that beggs the question, will H2's come out in right hand drive version or model if you like. Does anyone out there know if GM intends to sell H2's or even H1's in a right hand drive model. At the moment if I wanted to get a H1 I can get it converted in Australia at this place.

http://www.facom.au.com

Now this would cost me NZ$50,000 or US$28,000 - at present they are working on the H2 for conversion to RHD. There is another place.

http://www.hummer.com.au

They are the only place that I can find that will convert an H2 to RHD, their starting price for a new H2 plus its conversion is NZ$183,333 or US$101,000.

Those places I've said about above are not related to GMC or AM General at all, so the question is will hummers be made in RHD strait out of the factory in Indiana for RHD countries, does anyone out their know?

I ask these questions because on the TV news here (ONE NEWS) 3 nights ago it had an report on H2's and how they had become popular in the states and then at the end of the article they said the H2 in right hand drive will be released here in New Zealand for NZ$235,000 or US$129,000 next year (2004). This got me excited and I went on the net looking for info about it but couldn't find one thing on the subject! So do any of you guy's know about H2's being sold outside the states sooner or later because I sure don't. I'm not to sure where the news programs here get their info from but so far it doesn't sound credible.

Many more things to say about the fantastic hummer but I'll finish this one here.

Cheers
Aaron Wilkinson

P.S Also a price of US$129,000 sounds alot more than what you would get the H2 for in the states, agree.... yes?

Oh well, left this long enough. Thanks to the people who viewed this post, I guess it would have been a difficuilt thread to answer because all you guy's in the states have LHD H2's, cheers anyway. I've got all things sorted now and no the H2 will not be released in a RHD version. The only place to get it converted to RHD is http://www.hummer.com.au , so there you have it. There's actually one H2 allready here in New Zealand in the North Island (Auckland). Talk to ya soon.

regards

G'day there

I've got some extracts from a 4WD magazine here in New Zealand which talks about the H2 in RHD. They say:

"There's evidently to be a factory right-hand-drive version, but don't go bothering your Holden dealer just yet; it's a year away at least.

"If available here now, we figure the H2 could have a base price of NZ$110,000 - $120,000"

Those extracts come from "New Zealand 4WD and Sport Vehicals" - June 2003.

Now I recieved an e-mail from the Australian HML which is also a company that converts H1's to RHD, there called http://www.facom.au.com
It said totally the opposite thing about H2's being in a RHD version, here's an extract from that e-mail:

"We do however have the option of purchasing a H2 from a broker. We have been contacted by a couple of brokers wishing to sell us US vehicles of any make including the H2. The average broker fee is US$1500.00. I feel this is good value as I have been told by GM that they do not want the H2 in Australia or Asia. Their main concern is that something will go wrong with a vehicle deal or the RHD conversion and the issue will be left with GM Australia (Holden) to sort out. Eventhough the general manager of AM-General corporation set up the meeting for me (the owner of Facom) with GM and they checked out our impeccable track record as a Hummer dealer with AM-General they still decided that GM is not yet ready to offer Australasia the oportunity to own the highly successfull Hummer H2."

So my conclusion is no the H2 will not be released in a mass produced RHD version made at the AMG plant (the magazine is wrong). If you want to get an H2 in RHD the only place to get it done is http://www.chevroletaustralia.com.au/Hummer.htm
The RHD conversion for the H2 doesn't look that bad, it looks pretty darn good!

I don't think this looks bad at all. Have you heard anything as of late on the N2 coming over?

Are you able to drive LHD vehicles, or do they have to be RHD?

I would have to think that you could get a LHD H2 much cheeper.?

AHHHHHHHHHHH! Somebody replied!

I'm so sorry for not checking in earlier sbrennan007, this is the first time I've checked in for a while.

Well, the other night on TV here in NZ (similar to a 60 minutes or 20/20 article) a program called "Sunday" did a report on 4WD's and stuff and included was a guy driving an H2 around Auckland our most populous city. The H2 he was driving was actually LHD and the first one into New Zealand.
From what I understand you are allowed to drive LHD vehicles in NZ but you have to of:

1) Driven, owned and registered that particular vehical overseas in a LHD country for a period of 90 days at the minimum before importing it to NZ to own.

2) I think you can also import a LHD vehical for business purposes into NZ as long as it's not in the country for longer than 12 months. Hmmm? that sounds a bit odd, mayby I'll have to check up on that one. Perhaps though this is how the guy in Auckland got his LHD H2 into NZ.

All importing info and similar info for NZ is at http://www.ltsa.govt.nz

So....the only place to get your H2 converted to RHD is still http://www.hummer.com.au , and no, there will not be any mass produced version of the H2 strait from the factory in Indiana USA any time soon. The main reason for this place in Australia converting H2's to RHD is because in Australia it is illegal to own (or illegal to drive I should say) a LHD vehical in all but 2 of there states of which I think there is six.

You can now buy a Hummer H2 here in New Zealand. The place is called Penrose Motor Court, there web address is:

http://www.pmccars.co.nz

There isn't any info on their website yet about the hummer H2 but I know for a fact they are selling them. They do their own conversion to RHD for the truck so I guess if you've read my posts above you'll see that now there are two possible places to get a RHD H2. Their price is NZ $199,000 which is US $116,265. The price can be explained once you consider the fact they can't get wholsale trucks strait from GM as GM say they don't want the H2 in Australaisa at this point in time. This means they have to first get an H2 at a retail price which you would buy it at there in the States, then they have to import it (when it gets here to NZ they then get charged our tax and customs charges at this point) and then they have to convert it and THEN (few!..nearly there) they have to add their commission which bumps up the price so high!

But alas, the H2 is being sold here in NZ!
