stanza 06-24-2004, 08:35 AM hey guys, just wanted to share a few facts. I owned a 2003 H2 for several months before I wrote a research paper for my college (amherst) on global environmental pollution from automobiles and environmental relations between nations. After gathering some facts, I realized that in buying a Hummer I was supporting uber-capitalist greed, demonstrating a complete disregard for our natural resources and the future use of fossil fuels, and after I read the crash statistics, I realized I was making the roads unncecessarily dangerous. Don't flame me, I just wished to share my experience with you. I feel that the global energy/pollution crisis is a problem mainly of communication and I hope that I atleast penetrated a few cortexes here. These are some quick facts.
The H2 is a gas guzzler. Because it has a gross vehicle weight rating over 8500 lbs, the US government does not require it to meet federal fuel efficiency regulations. Hummer isn't even required to publish its fuel economy (owners indicate that they get around 10 mpg for normal use). So while our brothers and sisters are off in the Middle East risking their lives to secure America's fossil fuel future, H2 drivers are pissing away our "spoils of victory" during each trip to the grocery store.
The H2 is a polluter. Based on G.M.'s optimistic claim that it gets 13 mpg, a single H2 will produce 3.4 metric tons of carbon emissions in a typical year, more than double that of G.M.'s Chevrolet Malibu sedan (an ineffecient car by itself).
Here's another good one. I guess you guys have the republicans on your side.
The H2 is a tax loophole. Under Bush's new tax plan, business owners can deduct the entire cost of their $55,000 H2. If you are in the highest tax bracket, that's a tax savings of nearly $20,000! The government rewards you more savings for buying an H2 than you'd get for buying an electric car. Under this plan, most recent estimates say that you cost the american economy $840 to $987 million last year alone!
Easy Ed 06-24-2004, 11:14 AM Same ole :cry :nopity :bs
By the way, nice copy from fuh2 site http://www.fuh2.com/

jnsfox 06-24-2004, 11:43 AM Stanza,
Let me start by welcoming you to post this at another friendly Hummer site:
http://elcova.com/eve/ubb.x?cdra=Y&s=2826088551
I'm sure they would love to hear your views on this.
Secondly, you never owned a Hummer. No question in my mind, you may have washed one at your job for washtub, but owned or even driven one? Never.
The reason I can confidently assert you never owned one is that it would take a pretty feable mind to so easily flip-flop from buying an H2 to being another whacko enviro-turd nazi like yourself. Since buying an H2 requires a certain amount of success, I can conclude easily that you never had one as noone that CAN get an H2 could be as mentally lacking as yourself, you even stole content from another website for you little soapbox rambling.
As to our men and women proudly serving overseas to liberate the Iraqi people, you are completely self-deluded if you think they are fighting for oil. Go ahead ask one of them, I bet that none of them will tell you oil. Ask an Iraqi citizen what we are fighting for, I imagine none of them think it is oil either. Saddam was a VERY bad man and somebody had to do something....we did. If you are so good at research, learn a little about Iraq under Saddam before so flippantly concluding that this war is only about oil.
Have a great day :D

devilsfan 06-24-2004, 01:21 PM Stanza,
I totally see your point!!! I want to sell mine for those reasons!!!! I can't believe I was so brainwashed! I thought since it was an American vehicle I was doing good. I guess not. :( But then again, I'm just a girl, I don't know a lot about cars!! Thank you for explaining a lot of that, even though I don't know what some of it means.
Moron.
Take care!

No kidding!! People who are working hard in this country up by running or owning their own business's SHOULD get a tax break. Since I have to pay 43% in taxes !!!! Your damn right I got a tax break...to the tune of $19,000 dollars this year!
And the last time I checked. We were getting rid of evil leaders NOT taking over oil feilds.
Do me a favor.....don't weave into traffic from the bike lane !
m3harleymarine 06-24-2004, 04:13 PM Well,
As a former Marine Corps Officer, and a new Hummer owner, I am happy that people are allowing us to make a choice. Do you know how much oil goes into the plastic that encases the computer that you are typing on, or your game boy, xbox, blow up doll?
There are plenty of vehicles and manufacturing plants in the world that consume the lions share of our natural resources. Don't necessarily point your finger at the Hummer.
Its my choice, and dont get that jap car or truck in my way! The hummer's engine is made in the US, and the Truck is made in Indiana, and it is shipped by US trucking!!! God bless the Teamsters!
We are keeping our good hard earned cash in the US vs. exporting our money and importing others products.
I also have an M3 convertible that gets no more than 14 miles to the gallon, and my wife drives a Suburban that averages the same!
Its our lifestyle, our choice.
Get a life, buy a farm and grow some hemp. Oh yeah, I guess in the US that is illegal.
But you can move to Canada with all the other tree huggers and objectors.

DRTYFN 06-24-2004, 04:56 PM Stanza is so full of shit he/she squeaks. :seeya
Stanza needs to read The Skeptical Environmentalist by Bjorn Lomborg. Compare your "facts" to his and you'll probably throw your piece of garbage research paper in the round file. I bet you lifted all of your data from militant environmentalist websites anyway.
Please do come to
ELCOVA (http://elcova.com/eve/ubb.x) and try to bring that crap and see what happens. It'll be lots of fun.
As for ELF, I've got a couple skinned in the garage. Not much fight in them now.
Yetti 06-24-2004, 06:20 PM I have to do my home work, but I remember reading an artical a few years back about the VW beetles and the fact they went out of production for import to the USA (1981).
The reason being the majority of the beetles were still going due the aftermarket industries here in the US, but secondly because the Beetles were one of the worst offenders for not meeting Federal emmission standards for the up coming model years.
The fact remains that the same beetle is still produced for the Mexican market due to the lack of emmision standards.
If memory serves the number of Beetles still on our roads were something like 6 million vehicles. so if they couldn't meet the standards for the `81 model year, and haven't since then. the previous years would be degrading the environment at rate 100 times that of all the H2's produced to date. so put that in your pipe and smoke it. :eek
Easy Ed 06-24-2004, 06:24 PM DRTY, The third paragraph looks to also be copied and paste from FUH2 but he/she did add their input (an ineffecient car by itself). :glol

Yetti 06-24-2004, 06:42 PM Mr. ED,
It does not sound as if you are a proud owner of an H2?
It would even seem that you would have us drive something else...any sugestions would be welcome, as I only work for the UAW and don't seem to have grasp on what vehicle that could do better look like. Hmmm?
Easy Ed 06-24-2004, 07:07 PM Yetti,
"Mr. ED, It does not sound as if you are a proud owner of an H2?"
I am :confused1
Yetti 06-24-2004, 08:16 PM I must be reading out of context..it looked as if you were complaining about the 13mpg. sorry :banghead
Easy Ed 06-24-2004, 08:53 PM No problem, the comments in my post were from the FUH2 site and were just to show that their (stanza) thoughts looked to be stolen from there or another anti-H2 site and not really their own.
P.S. Was IAMAW for many years :)
JamesT 06-24-2004, 10:06 PM First...why didnt anyone tell me about this forum. GEEEEZZZ Thanks Seth, Stacy, DRTY.
Second: stanza...you are a bozo. Sorry, too tired to come up with something more whitty.
Glad to be here.
m3harleymarine 06-25-2004, 02:05 AM Beetles would not pass NHTSA head impact testing.

That's why we didn't tell you, James. ;)
