I need a favor from everyone.

I need to know what your local dealer's policy is on deposit refunds for ordered vehicles.

Lets say you ordered a truck and then a few weeks later cancelled the order. Would they give you your deposit back?

I contacted several dealers already and here are some of the responses:

"In XX years of being a Hummer dealer I have never threatened to keep someone's deposit so this is not a situation I am familiar with. I just think it is bad business."

"XXXXX has no legal standing to keep your deposit check. Until ALL the paperwork is complete and the truck goes OTC it is not yours and they MUST refund your check."

"We never withold anyone's deposits unless the vehicle has had a lot of custom work done to it. Even then we would probably return it."

And this from an attorney:

"They do not have a legal leg to stand on."

I would appreciate more input on this from everyone. Make a quick call to your dealer General Manager and post what their policy is. I may have a situation and am ramping up.

I was in the car industry for ten years. If the deposit receipt does not say “non-refundable deposit”, they have to buy law refund you. Even if it says “non-refundable deposit” depending in what sate you live in, you can fight to get your deposit back. The dealership is trying to play hardball so they can move a unit. Good luck!
