Onstar is not satellite based but rather uses Wireless Phone Service.

So how does Onstar know where you are when you have a problem. As far as I know most phone companies have not yet implemented the locating of cell phone call origination :confused1

I had the impression Onstar was using GPS technology but if no satellite, then no GPS at least where I come from :jester

So with OnStar, one has a GPS receiver but it is set up that only OnStar can use it unless one plays around with it of course :smash
