I found this extremely amusing. Saw a photo of the 2004 Chevy Suburban in the newspaper this weekend -- guess what the latest trend is? Running lights on the roof, just like the H2! I'm quite ticked off about this, as this was the only was I was able to spot a fellow Hummer in the dark! :(

"Here come the COPYCATS! "
Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll :eek
Off road lights on the roof have been around long before anyone even thought about building any kind of Hummer.
In fact some states used to require that they be covered when driving on road. I am guessing that those laws may have changed or maybe apply only to lights added by the owner as opposed to ones put on by the manufacturer.
Anyway IMHO, the H2 copied the high mounted lights .
I have lots of old 4X4 Off Road magazines with pictures to prove my point :smash

I believe you, Ghostrider. I have enough off-road junkies in my neighborhood to light up a small city with their roof lights. :crazy

I know that Hummer wasn't the brains behind this concept, but I hadn't noticed the roof lights on the typical "soccer-mom" machines running around town until the 2004 models. It seemed to me that most SUVs out there -- and by SUV, I mean those on the road carrying kids and groceries, not those at 45-degree angles on roadside hills -- were just a few steps away from the minivan styling-wise. Once the H2 came out and was seen on the roads more often, and got GREAT reviews for its bold styling, more of the dominant SUV manufacturers are adding little hints of Hummer to their lineup. It's not to say that GMC wouldn't have added those running lights to their line if the H2 never debuted, but just from personal observation, the majority of car manufacturers don't make drastic changes to their product line unless a new vehicle comes out that threatens to kick some butt. :)

I think there was some confusion...your talking abou the orange small "running" lights, right? Not the reflection beams, right?

SMTB.

Right, SMTB -- the 4 corner lights on the roof, then the series of three above the windshield and the rear window. The ones that are stock -- not the off-road lights that are an option.

Ooooops
If you do mean "orange small "running" lights,"

Then I be wrong .

But I think I have seen those on big pickup trucks, 3/4 ton and
one ton, back years ago . But then maybe my memory is bad.

And of course I consider SUV's , at least big ones, to be trucks.

Sorry for confusing the issue.

Sheesh. Ok, I can see that sticker making sense -- after 300 beers and a swift kick to the head, the Element might resemble a small H2!

That's like putting a 'vette sticker on a Hyundai. Why????? Just call it what it is and be proud to drive your Honda.

Maybe the H2 has running lights because the DOT says so.
