I just purchased an 03 H2 yesterday. Went to activate and was told by OnStar rep there was no phone service available in my zip code area. Now I don't exactly live in the sticks, a city of 80K. I phoned dealer and he told me they have the same problem in El Paso, TX a town of 250K 30 miles away. What a joke. Like owning a 3 legged race horse.

That's interesting since I thought On-Star was satellite driven but based on your post I guess not. Now I wonder if it is just tied into
cell phone networks and no towers are in your area.
Interesting, very interesting :banghead

GHOST, that was the impression I was under. But after speaking with OnStar rep they have to purchase rights from other wireless carriers. We have towers all over the place down here. And every one around here has a hand held mobile. So if phone feature is important to anyone they had better reaserch it . What is weird is they, 'OnStar' go by area code. Go figure.

Do not feel bad- I live North of the DFW airport and On Star says no phone service here either- only a couple of million people in the DFW metroplex!
I do not know who does their wireless coverage- all brands seemed to be here- I have Verizon and have had ATT (not customer service, but phone worked) and Sprint (service spotty)

Well don't feel bad gentlemen I live in Austin, Texas and they don't have any service here either. I spoke to the OnStar rep and they said they have been working on getting an agreement, I replied with haven't ya'll been in business for 5 years and you haven't worked out an agreement, your negoiator should be fired was my reply.
May be in 5 or 10 years more they will work it out....I just wish there was an after market way to tap into the system and hook up my current cell phone to systems to use the hands free.
