: Pre-owned H1 vs. new H2?

Has anyone owned an H1 ... and been able to perform a true comparison to the H2? I know there are different vehicles ... looking for the (not so subtle) differences. I know the H1 has higher clearance, and the H2 is taller and wider ... not to mention, more of an every day vehicle (interior comfrot wise, anyway).

I see 2001 H1's for the low $50's ... and was curious to see how others rated them for a similarly priced (new) H2. Any input would be appreciated.

Well I'll start by saying I traded my 03 H2 in this weekend for an 01 H1.

This is a really loaded question and probably has staunch supporters on both sides of the fence.

So, here are my thoughts and I think you already hit on a few.

The two trucks are really totally different. H1's performance off-road is superior to the H2. Some might agrue there close but I have off-roaded both and the H1 is just more capable. Probably not a huge surprise. Off-roading advantage H1

Comfort and creature features. Certainly H2. I was surprised by the comfort and stereo in the H1 but it's not luxury. Advantage H2

Mileage. Turbo Diesel H1 will get you 12 to 14MPG. All I can say is I had my H2 for 9 months and got an average of 10.4MPG. Also, diesel appears cheaper lately, at least here in Northeast.

Service. H2 is likely going to be easier to service and cheaper on parts. Standard Yukon platform with large base of installed parts. H1's seem to be a bit pricey for just about everything

I don't tow anything so I can't say here.

Insurance: Strangely it appears that insurance on my H1 is going to be twice what my H2 was. Not sure yet if the insurance company screwed the pooch on something yet but this could be a big advantage to the H2.

Did I mentione the H1 is better at off-roading.:)

Seriously, if your not off-roading or using it for heavy duty work site or towing work I would tell anyone to by an H2. For me it's more of a hobby truck for off-roading.

Sorry, hate to be long winded but like I said loaded question.

In the end the Hummer family rocks! and either is a seriosuly awesome ride.

Thanks much! You have confirmed my thoughts. I was shocked to hear about the insurance! :eek Maybe that's tied into repair costs.

I was hoping to see a Turbo-Diesel in an H2 ... I am hesitant about spending 50+K to get 10-11 MPG. My Escalade got 17MPG ... and that's in the same price range as the H2.

So, what's your input on using an H1 for DAILY and/or FREQUENT use? Too cumbersome? I live in suburbia ... but still have my share of traffic jams. Guess a Hummer would make traffic jams a bit easier ... assuming you put it in LOW first! :D

I'm sure repair and parts cost is a big reason for the Insurance Spike. No Airbag as well.

As for daily driving an H1. I can't honestly say yet since I just got it but I will say I spent a good part of the weekend and couple hundred miles driving around. The truck actually behaves very well, is comfortable and does not feel all that big on the road. Certainly no bigger than the H2. It's a diesel so it's noisy, but the gas mileage is better and I suspect the low RPM in traffic might help in the long run as well.

I will say the one thing that killed me about the H2 was the gas mileage. I know, what the hell did you expect, but as an everyday driver it's going to wear on you, trust me. I made it worse by using a Predator Programmer which required Super Grade Gas. Ouch!

:eek

:jester j/k :D

Does the width of the H1 bother you when driving around town ?
Good luck with your new toy :cheers

I'm with Ghostrider on the concern about WIDTH while driving around town.

I had a 1999 Escalade ... liked it a lot. The 2002+ Escalades are PREMO ... and I am toying between a new Escalade or an H2. The Escalade gets "respectable fuel mileage" ... a Turbo-Diesel in the H2 would sway me to the H2 over the Escalade.

I haven't yet tried to slice and dice it in tight spots (i.e. parking, etc.) but on the road it really feels no bigger than any SUV I've ever owned (H2, Avalanche, Silverado P/U). Of course all those scratches on the passenger side could mean I misjudged it :) Seriously, not that bad to drive on road. Actually the visibility all around is much better than the H2 if you ask me, especially out the rear. I do have an Open Top.:)

H1 was built to go offroad H2 was built to look great and do light offroading. You have to way what you want.

Yes, I understand - thanks much! Just trying to see how a pre-owned H1 would compare to a new H2 (or, what others think). I think the H1 looks more rugged. My wife probably would not drive it ... but would probably TAKE the H2 from me ... even if it were my vehicle. I just can't handle the 10MPG on the H2 ... which is why I was contemplating an H1. Local dealer has a Pewter H1 4DR Hardtop. Hmmm.....tempting!

Yep, me too.

I just like the looks of the H2 and would not buy a H1 period, end of story - unless I was going to war :flag - even if it was a lot cheaper than an H2 .

The H1 is obviously a lot more rugged vehicle but that is not my main requirement .

Good luck with your decision
