Detroit - General Motors announced to its HUMMER dealers at the National Automotive Dealers Association conference that it will add a second bodystyle to the HUMMER H2 lineup, the sport utility truck (SUT) in 2004.

The SUT will in every way be a HUMMER. Like its brother the H2 SUV, the SUT will draw from its military heritage as the next evolution of the HUMMER brand. Derived from the H2 SUV, the SUT will be functional, versatile and almost endlessly reconfigurable, to exceed even the most demanding consumer's standards.

"We first introduced the H2 SUT as a concept vehicle in Times Square with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mayor Rudy Giuliani during the 2001 New York Auto Show," said Mike DiGiovanni, HUMMER general manager. "Exceptional off-road capability and versatility in the SUT allows HUMMER owners the ultimate opportunity for adventure."

The SUT will blend the superior off-road capability HUMMER is known for and a versatile rear cargo bed with an adjustable bulkhead and no-nonsense interior. A distinctive feature will be its folding bulkhead at the rear of the passenger compartment that allows customers to have the flexibility to reconfigure this area for carrying people or cargo.

The H2 SUT will be built at AM General in Mishawaka, Indiana by the United Auto Workers Local 5, the oldest UAW local union in the country. The H2 SUT is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2004.

General Motors and AM General reached an agreement in December 1999, in which GM acquired exclusive ownership of the HUMMER brand name worldwide. To find out more about HUMMER, visit the web site at www.HUMMER.com.

Okay ... now that the H2 is expanding ... it's time to expand into a diesel engine! Heck ... if the micro-imports can slap a diesel into their SUV's ... surely HUMMER can drop a diesel into an H2? I'm waiting to write a check!

There are plenty of diesels in the stable to choose from. I wouldn't be surprised to see one in the next few years.

What's your opinion of WHAT is in the stable? I had a GM diesel from the early 80's ... which was really a conversion. My father has a Dodge Ram with a Cummins Turbo Diesel :p which is sweet!

Guys,

Does anyone know if the new Hummer SUT's interior is really going to look like the photos? It seems that the current H2's interior looks much different over the new SUT due out this year.

Any thoughts or words from GM on this?

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

The interior probably will not look exactly like the pictures. That was an early prototype used in shows. I don't know for sure, but I expect that the interior will look more like the current one.

Hey everyone, I am new to the forum...

I have been watching the H2 pretty close as to what I am going to buy for my next truck, and with the SUT coming out, I think that's going to to be the one for me. Weird that the SUT has write-ups in the GM Canada page, but still notta in the US pages. I have been drooling!

Also, on a side note, Motor Trend had it priced less than the H2 SUV. (following the same methods as the H1, I guess) Thats not too bad for a kid like me! The only bummer it I will have to wait til my lease is up on the toyota I am driving now. I would rather not start deeper in the hole then I need to.

I want it today though...stoooopid VT winters would not stand a chance! http://www.freebmw.net/share/Smilies/NormalSize/burnout%20smilie.gif
