HUMMER Dealer Network Increases to 157 Points

Dealerships opened recently in the following markets: Lexington, KY, Wilmington, North Carolina, Byron, GA, and Bakersfield, CA

Detroit, Mich - The world's premier off-road vehicles, the HUMMER H1 and H2, are at four new GM HUMMER dealerships; Lexington, Kentucky, Wilmington, North Carolina, Byron, Georgia and Bakersfield, California, bringing the HUMMER dealer network to 157 dealers nationwide.

In each of these markets General Motors signed a new HUMMER sales agreement with dealerships that exemplify the highest standards of performance among GM dealers in customer service, sales and profitability.

As of March 5, 2003 the newest HUMMER dealerships in the HUMMER Network include:

Jerry Barker opened Jerry Barker HUMMER for the Macon, Georgia market in Byron, Georgia.
Bonnie Quantrell opened Quantrell HUMMER for the Lexington, Kentucky market.
In Bakersfield, California, Harold W. Meek opened Three-Way HUMMER.
In Wilmington, North Carolina, J. Fred Rippy III and R. Allen Rippy opened HUMMER of Wilmington.
"GM is proud to announce these new dealerships for GM's HUMMER division. GM HUMMER dealers represent an elite group whose commitment to customer service and sales performance is truly outstanding," said Steve Hill, HUMMER director of sales and service.

The addition of these seven new dealer points brings the total number of new GM HUMMER dealerships from 153 of the 157 in North America.

Customers at the new GM HUMMER dealerships can expect treatment competitive with other luxury manufacturers. By 2004, all HUMMER dealerships will include a unique and daring dealer environment. The first of these HUMMER exclusive stores is Bergstrom HUMMER of Milwaukee, which opened July 10, 2002.

The GM HUMMER division consists of two models, the H1, based on the military HUMVEE, and the all-new 2003 H2 SUV. The H1 has two distinct body styles, a 4-Door Wagon and 4-Door Soft-Top. The H2 SUV went on sale in July of 2002 and is the top selling large luxury SUV in the US. Spring of 2004, HUMMER will introduce the new HUMMER H2 SUT to the family.

General Motors and AM General reached an agreement in December 1999 in which GM acquired exclusive ownership of the HUMMER brand name worldwide.

Are most Hummers sold through Hummer only storefronts? Or are those only the new stores that are Hummer only?

The majority of current Hummer dealers are associated with an existing dealership. There does not seem to be any standard association however, i.e. Chevy/hummer or Cadillac/hummer. I suspect that until recently there was not enough of a market to support a solo hummer franchise. I know that there a few exceptions, i.e. Lynch Hummer.

I believe that under the new dealership model the goal is for it to be a stand alone location for Hummer but I have yet to see any of these in the Mid-Atlantic at least... Not sure if the current dealers are required to develop a seperate site at somepoint to meet some requirement to this end.

There is a GMC dealership near my office that has an H2. It has been there for months. Probably becasue they are asking $68K for it.

I suspect at that price it will still be there in the months ahead as well... You would think that a responsible dealership would first, not try and gouge on pricing, or two, at a minimum understand the market today and realize that the inventory of H2's in not in the same short supply as last year...

Oh well! They certainly deserve to get stuck with it and perhaps take a hit down the road.

Ouch! They will have it for a while at that price.

My dealership can't keep the H2 in stock no matter what the price! I had to wait for 6 weeks to get a Pewter one.
Interestingly enough, over half the buyers are women, most single!

They are really taking off in the NorthWest areas... Several southern Oregon dealerships are trying to get a Hummer Franchise from what I have been told.
