Have you looked at buying one of those dual rear seats that they now sell? It takes the place of the spare tire.

I bought one for $300, excellent quality. Rarely used, but when used in those few occasions, it was indeed valuable. It is very heavy, not something you want to take in and out daily. Also be careful not to scratch the plastic rear bumper with the hooks under the 3rd row seat when you move it in and out. Put a towel or something over the rear gate to protect it.
